This was the main point for discussion when former Military Head of State, General ABDULSALAM ABUBAKAR led other elder statesmen for a meeting in Abuja under the banner of the National Peace Committee.

Our correspondent understands that the meeting, was called with the support of the United Nations Development Programme to review events around the Biafran agitation and the threat by a group of Arewa youths for Igbos residing in the North to vacate the area before 1st of October.

However; the discussions were held behind closed doors with the aim of drawing up a new national peace policy for Nigeria and to resolve security challenges across the country.

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji SA’AD ABUBAKAR, Cardinal JOHN ONAIYEKAN of the Catholic Archdiocese of Abuja, and former Chief of General Staff, Commodore EBITU UKIWE were also in attendance.

Bishop MATTHEW KUKAH of the Catholic Dioces of Sokoto and the Vanguard Publisher, SAM AMUKA, were also at the meeting.

You will recall that the National Peace Committee was set up in the heat of the 2015 general election, and played key role in ensuring the success of that election and the eventual concession of defeat by former President, GOODLUCK JONATHAN.
