This comes as the crisis within the Edo state chapter of the APC continues to rage.
The INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye said told the PUNCH that the commission’s rules, regulations and laws allowed it to only relate with the national chairman and national secretary of political parties.
Okoye said regardless of what was happening in state branches of parties, the commission would only recognize the date, venue and mode of primary submitted to it by the two national officers who are the National Chairman and the National Secretaries.
The two factions of APC in the state have been in disagreement over what mode of primary election to be used to pick the party’s candidate.
While the National Chairman of the party, Oshiomole, said to be in the same camp with the factional chairman of the party in the state, had insisted that the party would use direct primary to select its candidate, the faction loyal to Governor GODWIN OBASEKI is insisting that the indirect mode of primaries will be used by the APC to select its candidate.
