The clarification is contrary to insinuations that INEC was forced to reverse its insistence on going ahead with the election after security operatives were withdrawn from its personnel.
INEC National Commissioner in charge of Publicity and Voters Education, Prince SOLOMON ATOYEBI said the commission reached the decision to shift the election by two weeks after receiving the security alert from the Police and the Department of State Security.
Prince ATOYEBI, however, acknowledged that there was reduced security activity around INEC after the announcement by the Police and the DSS on Wednesday.
The INEC commissioner stressed that the new date of 28th September is programmed in such a way as to avoid a constitutional logjam if the election does not hold within the time frame provided the inauguration of a new administration.
