Edo Polls: IGP approves deployment of police technical units.

I.G.P IBRAHIM IDRIS said the police high command was determined to ensure that the election is conducted in an atmosphere of peace and security.

I.G.P IDRIS also said the revised election security operation plan would guarantee free, fair and credible election; as well as ensure a secured electoral process that would enable eligible voters to exercise their franchise freely.

He warned that the police would be firm and decisive in dealing with any infractions of the law, as well as actions and activities that constitute breach of peace and contrary to public order.

The Police High Command said some twenty five thousand conventional police officers would be on duty in Edo State, in addition to Tactical Teams from the Police Mobile Force, Counter Terrorism Unit, Explosive Ordinance Disposal, Special Protection Unit, Force Animal Branch, Police Air Wing and Marine Police Unit.

The IGP said the tactical units are moving into Edo State with patrol helicopters, gun boats, Armoured Personnel Carriers, Police Dogs and technical platforms.

IGP IBRAHIM IDRIS advised all Police Officers and Officers of all sister security agencies deployed for the election to conduct themselves in the best professional manner.

He also enjoined the people of Edo State be law abiding and to refrain from any action that could jeopardize peace and security in the state.

Furthermore; the Police High Command ordered the restriction of vehicular movement from midnight today to 6PM tomorrow.

A statement released by Force Public Relations Officer, DONALD AWUNAH noted that the Edo State Commissioner of Police is to ensure full enforcement of the order.

However; the restriction of vehicular movement would not affect persons involved in essential duties who must be properly identified.
