The Democratic Republic of Congo secured a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Benin in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Group D opener.
The only goal of the match came in the 16th minute when Théo Bongonda capitalised on a defensive error to score for the Leopards. DR Congo dominated possession and created several chances but were unable to extend their lead, while Benin pressed for an equaliser in the second half.
Despite Benin’s efforts, the Congolese defence held firm to preserve the clean sheet and secure the win. The victory puts DR Congo in a strong position in Group D, while Benin will aim to bounce back in their next match.
