ASUU President, Professor ABIODUN OGUNYEMI said the problem with the Federal Government is the failure to see education as a priority.
Giving an overview of the history of the prevailing industrial dispute, Professor OGUNYEMI said it all started way back in 1992, leading up to the 2009 agreement and then the Memorandum of Understanding with government in 2013.
Professor OGUNYEMI, who was speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, recalled that the 2013 MoU provided for government to inject one point three trillion naira over a period of five years.
The MoU provided that government would release two hundred and twenty billion naira to every year, for five years, to fund the revitalization of universities.
However; the ASUU President noted that government only released two hundred billion naira over the past four years and stopped.
You recall that ASUU called out its members for a nationwide indefinite strike on 13th of August, which has paralysed academic activities at the various federal and state universities for over two weeks.
