You will recall that the Commissioner of Police, FRANCIS ODESANYA, had on Tuesday confirmed that some twenty-five thousand police officers and men would be on election duty in Rivers State this weekend.
Deputy Inspector General of Police, JOSHAK ABILAK has also been put in charge of security in the state although the period of the elections.
He is being assisted by three Commissioners of Police, one for each of the three Senatorial Districts in the state.
The Commissioners of Police in neighboring states have also been instructed to help in enforcing the restriction of vehicular movement in and out of Rivers State during the elections.
DIG ABILA has also warned all trouble makers to steer clear from Rivers State, adding that that no single individual would be allowed to enthrone himself through the use of violence.
DIG ABILAK assured that no at least five policemen would be deployed at each polling unit, while no less than three hundred and fifty patrol vehicles with fully armed policemen would be on standby to ensure prompt intervention whenever the need arises.
The Deputy Inspector General of Police made the disclosure during a stakeholders meeting in Port Harcourt, organized by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
DIG ABILAK warned that no politician, irrespective of the rank, would be allowed to move out of their polling unit.
He also warned against carrying of huge amount of cash to polling units, adding that anyone found during the election would be arrested and prosecuted.
Our correspondent UCHENDU EJIOWHOR reports that the Police DIG also reinforced the announcement of the restriction of movement on both land and sea within Rivers State, with effect from midnight on Friday.
