DEFENSE FOR HUMAN RIGHTS CALLS FOR SUSPENSION OF RIVERS STATE LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS

The Chairman of the organization, Clifford Christopher, in an interview with Today FM’s Sandra Kenneth, said the political atmosphere is very tense, adding that security should be the priority, not local government elections.

Christopher reminded stakeholders of the recent failed explosive device, noting that what people need to hear is how far security agencies have gone in ensuring that the state is secure.

The Chairman of the human rights organization stated that the organization has predicted that if local government elections are conducted under the current conditions, they will be bloodshed.

He also alleged that the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), under the current leadership, will not provide credible elections, emphasizing that the leadership was appointed by the immediate past governor of the state.
