The defence lawyer; JOSEPH DAUDU told the court that the former National Security Adviser was being punished by some persons at the highest level of power in the country for perceived grievances while in active military service many years ago.
The Senior Advocate of Nigeria did not name any particular person, but said the punishment being meted on his client was unfortunate, as it was borne out of vendetta.
DAUDU, who was reacting to the government’s request for DASUKI’s trial to be conducted in secret, said his client has decided to rest his case in God for the ultimate judgment.
The Federal Government’s request for secret trial of DASUKI was contained in fresh motion argued by the prosecuting counsel, Chief DIPO OKPESEYI.
The Senior Advocate of Nigeria prayed the court to allow witnesses to give evidence behind the screen to be provided by the court.
He said the request is based on the fact that DASUKI as a former top security chief has large loyalists across the country that may jeopardize the trial if done in the open.
