Dangote Petroleum Refinery to Distribute Free Petrol and Diesel Nationwide Starting August 15, 2025

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced a major initiative to distribute free petrol and diesel to marketers, dealers, and large-scale users across Nigeria. The Lagos-based company revealed that the program will officially kick off on August 15, 2025, as part of its efforts to improve fuel availability and support the Nigerian economy.

In a statement issued by Dangote Petroleum, the refinery explained that the initiative aims to address ongoing fuel shortages, lower transportation costs, and boost industrial activities nationwide. To facilitate this massive distribution effort, the company has procured 4,000 brand-new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered tankers, emphasizing its commitment to environmentally sustainable logistics.

The free fuel distribution will benefit a broad spectrum of stakeholders, including transportation companies, manufacturing firms, and other large consumers of petroleum products. Dangote Petroleum stated that the move is aligned with its goal to enhance energy security and foster economic growth in Nigeria.

The 4,000 CNG tankers are designed to provide cleaner, more efficient fuel transportation. Dangote highlighted that these tankers meet international safety and environmental standards, promising safer and more sustainable distribution across the country.

Industry experts have expressed optimism that this initiative could be a game-changer for Nigeria’s fuel supply chain. However, some analysts advise that the success of the program will depend on effective coordination with government agencies to ensure transparency and long-term sustainability.

As of now, the Nigerian government has not issued an official statement regarding the Dangote initiative. Nonetheless, the move is seen as a positive development that could complement existing efforts to stabilize fuel prices and improve supply.

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery is one of Africa’s largest and most ambitious refining projects, with a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day. Once fully operational, it is expected to significantly reduce Nigeria’s dependence on imported petroleum products and boost local refining capacity.

This new initiative highlights Dangote’s strategic role in Nigeria’s energy sector and underscores its commitment to supporting national development through innovative and sustainable solutions.
