Lagos Commissioner for Health Professor, Akin Abayomi disclosed this at a news conference in Lagos while giving updates on coronavirus in the State.
Abayomi said the state was yet to reach the virus peak, which will likely be around July and August adding that Lagos has ramped testing to reach large number of people in a bid to flatten the curve.
The commissioner attributed the increase in cases being recorded to the decentralization of sample collection to the 20 Local Governments areas of the state.
He said if government had not been proactive, Lagos would have recorded 6,000 cases rather than the 1,990 one cases which it currently has.
The commissioner however noted that 97% of positive cases at its isolation centres were mild and moderate cases, adding that only 3% were severe cases.
