The presiding Judge, Justice Emmanuel Obille, gave the adjournment after listening to argument by representative counsels to the parties and to enable plaintiff serve notice of hearing on the Attorney General of the federation.
Speaking to newsmen outside the courtroom, Counsel to the plaintiff, Finjite Amachree, said Shell Petroleum cannot stop the case from getting it’s full justice through its motion and applications.
On his part, Jerry Elumeze who represented Shell Petroleum maintained that the suit is statute barred in the sense that it was filed after twenty years operation of his client, which he said does not fall within the five years stipulated time in law.
The Ogoni group is seeking for adequate compensation of the people and proper cleanup of the polluted and damaged land or the land should be return to it’s original state before exploration of oil by Shell and Federal Government.
