The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has nullified the judgment of the Federal High Court that ordered the proscription of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Accord Party and three other political parties.
In a judgment delivered on Tuesday, the appellate court held that the Forum of Former Legislators, which instituted the suit seeking the parties’ deregistration, lacked the legal standing (locus standi) to file the case.
The three-member panel, led by Justice Abba Bello, consequently set aside the earlier judgment delivered by Justice Peter Odo Lifu of the Federal High Court, declaring it null and void.
The Court of Appeal also awarded costs of ₦1 million against the Forum of Former Legislators, which filed the suit.
