Justice Sika Aprioku in a ruling, assumed jurisdiction and held that the none joinder of the Nigeria Police Force in a matter that the Commissioner of Police is a party to, does not render the suit incompetent.
The trial Judge said that the application by the Police lacks merit and hereby dismissed it with a cost of one hundred thousand naira in favor of EHIE.
Justice Aprioku also granted the prayers of the Counsel to Ehie, Damian Okoro to restrain the police from arresting, detaining, harassing or inviting EHIE based on the trumped up charges in the suit by Martins Amaewhule, in connection to the explosion that destroyed the hallow chambers of the Rivers State House of Assembly on October 29, 2023.
Speaking in an interview with newsmen outside the courtroom, Counsel to the Police, Dickson said he will study the judgment and advise his clients accordingly.
On his part, one of counsels to the Chief of Staff, Ibioku Mac-Barango told Today FM’s Uchendu Ejiowhor that the judgment reflects the position of the law.
