Commercial drivers, Road transport workers clash in Rivers

The Publicity Secretary of the Drivers’ Welfare Club of Nigeria, Christian Ezeani in an interview with Today FM’s Sandra Kenneth complained of the constant harassment and bullying of drivers in different parts of Rivers State for abiding by a court judgment which stops NURTW from collecting taxes from drivers.

He frowned at what he termed continued disobedience to court order by the NURTW, while also accusing the Rivers State Police Command of failing to enforce the ruling, leaving drivers at the mercy of illegal tax masters.

Christian disclosed plans to withdraw their services, following the brutalization of some of their members today at Lagos bus stop.

He further called on the Rivers State Government, Ministry of Transportation and law enforcement agencies to come to their aid, noting that double taxation is gradually crippling economic activities in the state.
