CHUKWUEMEKA EZEUGO, who is popularly known as Reverend KING, has come to the end of the road in his legal battle to escape the hangman.
This is because Reverend KING has lost his appeal at the Supreme Court over his conviction for murder and death sentence by hanging by a Lagos High Court.Reverend KING was the General Overseer of the Christian Praying Assembly located in Isolo area of Lagos when he was arraigned over the murder and attempted murder of six member of his congregation.The convict was accused of pouring petrol on the victims and setting them alight, which led to the death of a woman identified as ANN UZOR on 2nd of August, 2006.He was arraigned in court on 26th of September, 2006 on a six-count charge of attempted murder and murder, to which he pleaded not guilty and was sentenced to death by hanging by then Justice JOSEPH OYEWOLE of the Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja.In a lead judgment by the Supreme Court; Justice SYLVESTER NGWUTA upheld the ruling by the Court of Appeal, which affirmed the judgment that was delivered by the trial court presided over by Justice JOSEPH OYEWOLE.
Justice NGWUTA declared that facts of the case are like what one sees in a horror movie, and went ahead to rule that the Reverend KING’s appeal lacked merit.
