Boat operators in Rivers State have welcomed the directive by the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) mandating them to register with the body.
The unit chairman of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria in the state, Waribo Isreal, told journalists that the move would help curb criminality on the waterways.
He also commended the efforts of security agencies for ensuring operators adhere to designated routes, making it easier to identify and apprehend criminals.
