Benin Republic: National Assembly reject proposal for constitutional referendum to reduce presidential term limit.

The proposal was put forward by President PATRICE TALON who is looking to shorten presidential terms as a means to check complacency.

President TALON needed the approval of three-quarters of the National Assembly to go ahead with the referendum, but his proposal fell short by three votes.
