The debate on the issue by the African Union heads of state and government during their two-day summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
This comes after months of a high-level diplomatic push by Morocco to rejoin the pan-African body, which it left thirty-two years ago.
Morocco’s previous exit back in time when the body was still known as Organisation of African Unity, was because of the recognition of Western Sahara as an independent state.
However; Morocco continues to see Western Sahara as part of its territory.
