But the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor BLESSING DIDIA had earlier opposed the proposed name change during a public hearing of the amendment bill by the Rivers State House of Assembly.
The ASUU Chairman at the University, Doctor SOBERE PUYATE said the union’s support for the bill was to prevent the de-accreditation of some courses.
PUYATE who spoke in an interview with correspondent CHINEDU IWUNNA noted that the Vice Chancellor’s objection to the change of name was in order, considering what he described as the object of the institution.
The Report on the Bill by the Committee on Education in the Rivers State House of Assembly was presented on Tuesday by the Chairman of the Commiitee, FARRAH DAGOGO.
