Adamu who said this at the State House Ministerial Briefing yesterday, insisted that he will not succumb to ASUU’s demand for their members to be paid the backlog of salaries withheld within the period of six months strike, noting that it is the penalty for their action.
Adamu said the Federal Government bears no liability to compensate millions of students grounded for six months over lost of time, suggesting that the affected students should take ASUU to court to claim damages incurred during the strike period.
The minister also denied getting a directive from President Muhammadu Buhari to resolve the protracted strike in two weeks.
Meanwhile, president of ASUU, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke says even if other issues in contention are resolved, the lecturers will not go back to the classrooms unless they are paid the backlog of their salaries.
