ASUU declares one-week warning strike.

ASUU President, BIODUN OGUNYEMI, announced the warning strike in a circular that was released after the National Executive Council meeting of the union.

The circular sighted by our Abuja correspondent indicates that the strike will commence tomorrow, November 16 and end on Tuesday, November 22.

ASUU explained that the decision to embark on warning strike is to compel the Federal Government to address the issue of funding of government universities based on a memorandum of understanding signed in November 2013.

The university lecturers are also complaining about failure to release subvention to state universities by their visitors.

Also in contention is the payment of earned academic allowances, shortfall in salaries leading to payment of fractions of staff salaries, non-payment of salaries of staff in the staff primary schools.

ASUU is also demanding the exemption of universities from the Treasury Single Account policy and renegotiation of the 2009 agreement.
