The Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel SANI USMAN said the raids were part of the ongoing Operation Crocodile Smile in the Niger Delta region.
In a statement; Colonel USMAN said troops of 222 Battalion of 4 Brigade of the Nigerian Army tracked down hoodlums for allegedly terrorizing commuters plying the East-West Road, between Ughelli and Patani.
The Army spokesman said the patrol team arrested five suspects, whose names were given as ORUNO EGBEDE, ATIYOYO REWEMUESERE, PETER KEHINDE, WILSON GODBLESS and FRIDAY ODEDE.
Colonel SANI USMAN said troops also raided a compound on Temile Street in Ughelli, in search of the suspected leader of a new militant group known as Otuga Fire Force.
USMAN alleged that the suspected militant leader identified as GABRIEL OGBUDJE, was responsible for recent acts of economic sabotage perpetrated at NPDC shoreline major delivery trunk line within Ogor-oteri communities on Monday this week.
The main target of the raid was nowhere to be found, but four other persons who were at the house, including VINCENT EKEKE, HENRY KOKO, RACHEAL ABBAH and AMARATEFA ODADA were invited for questioning.
