Colonel SAGIR MUSA, who is the Deputy Director of Army Public Relations at the Eighty-Two Division in Enugu, said the attention of Headquarters had been drawn to what he described as unjustified, invidious and over flogged accusation by the Campaign for Democracy.
According to a statement released by him, Colonel MUSA said the group alleged that soldiers engaged in mass killing of at least two thousand Igbo youths under the guise of Rules of Engagement.
He said the same claim was made in a report attributed to Amnesty International which indicted Nigerian Security Forces in the killing of over one hundred and fifty pro-Biafra protesters in the South Eastern part of Nigeria.
Colonel SAGIR MUSA said the Nigerian Army had variously, through its Human Rights Desk, investigated allegations of rights violations and the results indicated that the claims were false and malicious.
He said the Nigerian Army under its constitutional authorization to aid Civil Authority must continue to act in the best interest of the nation, in collaboration with other security agencies, to de-escalate violence and checkmate security threats across the nation.
The Army spokesman for the Eighty-Two Division said relevant authorities in the South East are at liberty to set up an inquiry into the accusations with a view to getting to the root of the matter.
