Army defend raid on UN premises, says no plans to undermine body’s integrity.

The military maintains that part of its mandates in the North East is to provide security and support to the UN and other humanitarian agencies in the discharge of their duties.

It said following the incident of last Friday, steps have been taken to avert a repeat of the circumstances that led to the raid.

You will recall that the Nigerian Army had confirmed the raid on the United Nations building in Pompomari Byepass, Maiduguri based on intelligence report about the infiltration of Boko Haram elements preparing to attack military formations.

The incident was greeted with outrage by the UN, which reacted by suspending operations and directing local staff to work from home.

However, the Nigerian military has reassured the UN agencies in the North East of their safety at all times, with the promise of all necessary support and the conducive environment for the discharge of their humanitarian activities.
