The Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel SANI USMAN, said the explosion happened closed to a checkpoint mounted by troops of Operation Lafiya Dole.
Colonel USMAN said the target of the suicide bomb mission was in Gubio town but eight of the bombers who were traveling in a pick-up truck were blown up before they could reach their destination.
The Army spokesman said the terrorists had attempted to force their way through the checkpoint but met stiff resistance from troops who insisted that the vehicle must be thoroughly checked.
