Analysts, Lawyer Condemn Police Ransacking of Citizens During Stop-and-Search

A security analyst, Charles Inko-Tariah, has criticised the police over what he described as the routine ransacking and public stripping of citizens during stop-and-search operations.

He described the practice as an outdated style of policing and called for more professional methods. Inko-Tariah, who spoke with correspondent Ofonime Okon, said there are better ways the police can conduct stop-and-search operations on major roads without harassing citizens.

Another security analyst, Stanley Nsofor, also condemned the practice, describing police officers who ransack citizens under the guise of conducting searches as criminals.

Nsofor added that the new Inspector-General of Police faces the challenge of flushing out corrupt officers from the Nigerian Police Force.

Similarly, a human rights lawyer, Higher King, said such actions violate the fundamental human rights of citizens and called for an immediate end to the practice.
