The Education Minister, Malam ADAMU ADAMU has directed that the teaching of Christian Religious Studies and Islamic Religious Studies in secondary schools must be done as separate subjects.
The Minister said there was no compulsion in the study of the two religions, adding that secondary school students are at liberty to choose any of the two subjects, depending on their religious leanings.
According to a statement obtained by our correspondent in Abuja; the Education Minister explained that the confusion was created by a publisher who produced a book on the subject, combining Christian Religious and Studies Islamic Religious Studies, which he said is now in use in some private secondary schools.
