Residents of Alesa Community in Eleme Local Government Area have called on the government to urgently intervene over alleged land grabbing and the destruction of farmlands by grazing cattle.
Chairman of the Community Development Committee, Joseph Osadji, alleged that armed individuals, sometimes accompanied by persons in security uniforms, intimidate landowners and illegally take over ancestral lands.
He also expressed concern over the destruction of crops by grazing cattle, saying the situation has discouraged many women from farming.
Osadji appealed to the federal, state and local governments, as well as members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, to urgently address the challenges.
