Akuku Toru,Opobo Nkoro communities worried over EU water project likely to skip areas.

The European Union Niger-Delta Support Programme for Water Project is valued at two hundred million naira, which is split equally between the state and the EU.

Representatives of the communities came together in Port Harcourt to once again appeal to the state government to release its counterpart share of fund as precondition for the EU water project to begin.

The Chairman of the Federation of Akuku-Toru and Opobo-Nkoro Water Consumers Association, IWANIMIE DIRI disclosed at a joint media briefing that only Rivers State was having problem paying its counterpart share of funding for the water project.

DIRI also disclosed that the European Union had in a letter to the Rivers State Government declared its intention to suspend the project due to the delay by the government.
