The aggrieved indigenes of the two host communities are demanding that Shell should leave their land for allegedly failing to develop the area over the past thirty-seven years of its operations.
The respondents said they were tired of the use of divide and rule tactic by the management, just as they called on the Federal and State governments to prevail on Shell to leave their land.
The Rivers State Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, SUKUBO SARAKA-IGBE, who is also from the community, vowed that they would continue their protest until their demands are met.
Also briefing newsmen at the scene of the protest, Chief TAMUNOEMI OWEN FELIX who is the spokesman for the Belema Council of Chiefs, claimed that youth restiveness in the area is as a result failure by the oil multinational to development the area of its operations.
There has not been any response from Shell Petroleum Development Company on the claims by the people of Belema and Ofonyama communities in Akuku-Toru.
