The Rivers State coordinator of the African Women Lawyers Association, Hilda Desmond-Ihekaire who spoke on this year’s theme; realizing women’s human capital through accelerated social and economic development, said as first teachers to their children, women should be celebrated for promoting the African culture which is now seen as archaic.
Desmond-Ihekaire also urged women to identify with political parties that would avail them the opportunity to be part of policy making.
While calling on women to support those in politics, Desmon-Ihekaire appealed to government at all levels to implement all agreements signed towards ensuring gender inclusiveness.
Today FM’s Stella Saasongu reports that the African women’s day is marked on 31st July every year to acknowledge the role of women in achieving the political freedom of Africa.
