Absence of fiscal federalism, bane of Nigeria’s development -Duoye.

DUOYE DIRI said the situation where the Federal Government controls revenue generation form natural resources, does not help the development of the areas where such resources are found.

The lawmaker, who represents Yenagoa-Kolokuma-Okpokuma Federal Constituency in Bayelsa State, advocated a system where communities pay tax to the Federal Government for natural resources that are mined within their domain.

By so doing, DIRI said the people would be able to take ownership of such resources, improve security around such facilities and consider themselves as partners in progress.

Also speaking on the controversy over the proposed amendment of the Act Establishing the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas Company, DIRI said it was meant to bring the NLNG in compliance with the Niger Delta Development Commission Act.
