Abaribe, Ohanaeze Chieftain React to Nnamdi Kanu’s Conviction, Describe Verdict as “Black Day”

Former Senate Minority Leader, Enyinnaya Abaribe, has expressed disappointment over the conviction and sentencing of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu. Abaribe said the outcome did not come as a surprise, noting that many had predicted the judgment long before it was delivered.

In a similar reaction, the immediate past Vice President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Damian Okeke-Ogene, described the conviction as a “black day” for the Igbo nation. He alleged that the presiding judge acted “from a script” and called on governors from the South-East to unite and demand Kanu’s unconditional release.

Both leaders emphasized the need for the government to reconsider its approach to addressing the underlying grievances in the region.
