Caverton pilots arrest: Lawyer says Rivers State attorney has no authority over federal offense

A Port Harcourt based lawyer, ACHINIKE WILLIAM-WOBODO in his reaction demanded to know if the Rivers State Attorney General has the authority of Attorney General of the Federation to prosecute a federal offense.

WILLIAM-WOBODO also sought to know the maximum term for the offense committed by the pilots if such offense even exists in Rivers State.

He also requested to know the law and the section that the Pilots violated by the disobedience to the order of Rivers State Government and the purpose of the enforcement to persecute offenders if not to correct them and deter others.

The lawyer wondered if the offense committed by the pilots was not a summary conviction offense which the magistrate is empowered and could hear evidence and dispense with within the same day or the day following, assuming they pleaded not guilty.
