The Senate has again delayed the screening of former governor of Rivers State, ROTIMI AMAECHI, for appointment as a minister.

The Senate has again delayed the screening of former governor of Rivers State, ROTIMI AMAECHI, for appointment as a minister. The Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petition is unable to present a report on its inquiry into a petition against the nomination of AMAECHI by the so-called Integrity Group.
A member of the committee and spokesman of the Senate, DINO MELAYE from Kogi State told reporters outside the Senate Chamber that AMAECHI’s case would be handled tomorrow. Senator MELAYE said the Senate APC Caucus has met and resolved to stand behind the former governor of Rivers State and defend his nomination. MELAYE said the PDP Caucus is also expected to meet to deliberate on the AMAECHI controversy, as lobbying intensifies. The Senate spokesman also confirmed that a decision had been reached to adjust the screening of ministerial nominees to satisfy the yearnings of Nigerians. Our correspondent JAMES IGAH reports that a group of young people earlier today staged a peaceful demonstration at the National Assembly complex to drum up support for the nomination of ROTIMI AMAECHI for appointment as a minister.
