Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of directing the freezing of a state government account used for the payment of workers’ salaries, just 10 days before the August 15 governorship election.
According to reports, the account, domiciled with a commercial bank, was placed on a “Post No Debit” status on the directive of the anti-graft agency.
The allegation came shortly after the Osun State Government, in a statement published on its official website, raised concerns that the EFCC was planning to freeze the state’s accounts as well as those of some top government officials.
The development has heightened political tension ahead of the governorship election, with the state government questioning the timing of the alleged action.
