The money being demanded by the Nigerian Government from companies covers undeclared crude oil shipped out of the country between 2011 and 2014.
Court documents reportedly cited by Punch Newspaper online indicate that the volume of crude oil declared to have been exported from Nigeria was less than what was declared to have been imported into United States of America through the same shipment by the same vessel on the same bill of lading.
The government also claims that fifty-seven million barrels of crude oil were illegally exported by the oil companies and sold to buyers in the United States of America between January 2011 and December 2014.
Meanwhile; hearing on the case is expected to begin next week before Justice OLATOREGUN ISOLA of the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos.
There have been no reactions from the companies mentioned in the court documents, including Total, Agip and Chevron.
