NPFL Targets August 27-29 for 2026/27 Season Kickoff

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has tentatively scheduled the weekend of August 27 to 29 for the commencement of the 2026/27 football season following a joint stakeholders’ meeting held in Abuja.

The meeting brought together officials of the National Sports Commission (NSC), the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the NPFL leadership and club owners to review preparations for the new campaign and strengthen collaboration among key stakeholders.

NPFL Chairman, Gbenga Elegbeleye, said the proposed kickoff date aligns with efforts to ensure a well-organised season that complies with both domestic and international football calendars. He noted that the league remains committed to improving scheduling, officiating and overall professionalism.

The stakeholders also reviewed the successes and challenges of the previous season and reaffirmed their commitment to delivering a more competitive and commercially viable league.

The proposed date is expected to be confirmed after the release of the final fixtures and completion of pre-season arrangements by participating clubs.
