President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of retired Brigadier-General. P.T. Boroh as the Co-ordinator of the Amnesty Programme for former Niger Delta militants.

The appointment was contained in a statement made available to journalists by Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity.

Adesina said the retired Boroh, whose appointment takes immediate effect, would take over the responsibilities of the former Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Niger Delta, Kingsley Kuku, who also doubled as Coordinator of the Amnesty Programme.

President MUHAMMADU BUHARI has written to the senate requesting the upper chamber to screen and confirm the newly appointed service chiefs.

FEMI GBAJABIAMILA of the APC from Lagos State has been endorsed as Majority Leader of the House of Representatives.

Correspondent JAMES IGAH reports that BUBA JIBRIN is the Deputy House Leader, while ALHASSAN DOGUWA is the Chief Whip and PALLY IRIASE is the Deputy Chief Whip.

The development finally puts an end to the crisis that has rocked the House since the inauguration of the Eight National Assembly on 9th of June.

You will recall that a section of the House led by GABJABIAMILA, which enjoys the support of the national leadership of the ruling APC, had been in a running battle with a rival group led by the Speaker, YAKUBU DOGARA.

The Dogara Group had insisted on the zoning of principal offices across the six geo-political zones based on preferred choices by members, while the Gbajabiamila Group insisted on enforcing the wishes of the APC leadership.

However; it is widely speculated that yesterday meeting between President MUHAMADU BUHARI and the APC Caucus members may have set the stage for the compromise by the federal lawmakers.

LEO OGOR of the PDP emerged as the Minority Leader, while ONYEMA CHUKWUMA occupies the position of Deputy Minority Leader.

UMAR BARDE is the Minority Whip, while BINTA BELLO emerged as the Deputy Minority Whip.

The Speaker‎, YAKUBU DOGARA made the announcement on the floor of the House before the end of plenary yesterday.

The announcement was greeted with applause by members of the House and observers.
