FG PARTNERS COURSERA TO PROVIDE FREE AI AND DIGITAL SKILLS TRAINING FOR NIGERIANS

By Paul Chimodo

The Federal Government has entered into a partnership with global online learning platform Coursera to provide free artificial intelligence and digital skills training for Nigerians as part of efforts to boost the country’s tech workforce.

The initiative, announced by the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, is aimed at expanding access to world-class learning opportunities in emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, data science, cybersecurity, and software development.

According to the ministry, the programme is designed to equip Nigerians—particularly young people—with globally competitive digital skills that will enhance employability and entrepreneurship in the technology sector.

Officials say the partnership will leverage Coursera’s vast library of courses from top universities and industry leaders, allowing participants to learn at their own pace while gaining certificates that are recognised internationally.

The government explained that the initiative is part of broader efforts to close Nigeria’s digital skills gap and position the country as a leading hub for technology talent in Africa.

It also aligns with ongoing programmes such as the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) initiative, which targets large-scale training of Nigerians in high-demand digital fields.

Authorities added that the training will be accessible online, making it available to participants across urban and rural communities, with a focus on inclusivity and youth empowerment in the digital economy.
