Northern Ireland manager Michael O’Neill has said he believes his team can beat Italy in the 2026 World Cup qualifying play-off.
O’Neill admitted that drawing Italy was tough but stressed that his team must believe in themselves and take advantage of the pressure on the Azzurri. He highlighted strong performances in previous away matches as a source of confidence and said that if his squad is fully fit by March, they can get a positive result.
The Northern Ireland boss also noted that the one-off play-off format could work in their favor compared to a two-legged tie, giving them a better chance to cause an upset.
