Rivers Government Reaffirms Commitment to Women Empowerment in Medicine

The Rivers State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that build capacity, promote mentorship, and ensure that no woman is left behind in the pursuit of excellence.

The State Deputy Governor, Professor Ngozi Ordu, stated this during the 2025 Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria (MWAN), Rivers State Branch, Week and Investiture Ceremony held in Port Harcourt.

Delivering the keynote address, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adaeze Oreh, stressed that developing a generation of skilled and motivated women in medicine holds immense potential for producing effective female leaders capable of driving meaningful change in the healthcare sector.

In her remarks, the Chairperson of MWAN, Rivers State Branch, Dr. Cecilia Nwibubasa, noted that empowering women translates to empowering entire communities, as women play a crucial role in societal growth and development.

This year’s event was themed “Empowering Women in Medicine: Building Capacity for Impact.”
