Bode George Expresses Shock Over Governor Peter Mbah’s Defection to APC

A member of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, has expressed deep shock and disappointment over the defection of Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking with journalists on Tuesday, Chief George described the governor’s move as unexpected and regrettable, particularly at a time when the PDP is working to rebuild and reposition itself ahead of future elections.

According to him, several PDP leaders, including members of the party’s Board of Trustees and National Working Committee, had held consultations with Governor Mbah in a bid to persuade him to remain in the party. He said those efforts were made in the spirit of unity and loyalty to the ideals that have kept the PDP together for over two decades.

“It came as a rude shock to many of us in the PDP family. We were hopeful that after our discussions and appeals, Governor Mbah would stay and help strengthen the party in the South-East. His defection is truly disappointing,” George said.

The PDP chieftain warned that the growing wave of defections to the APC could weaken the opposition and diminish Nigeria’s democratic balance. He urged party members across the country to remain steadfast and resist the temptation of political convenience.

Chief George, however, maintained that the PDP remains committed to internal reforms and reconciliation, emphasizing that the party will continue to play its role as a credible alternative to the ruling APC.

Governor Mbah’s defection adds to a string of recent high-profile movements into the APC, which analysts say may reshape the political landscape ahead of the next general elections.
