Ex-Labour Leader Slams Rivers Government Over Staff Verification Exercise

A former labour leader, Opu-oyibo Lilly-West, has criticised the decision of the Rivers State Sole Administrator to proceed with the proposed staff verification exercise for civil servants despite widespread opposition.

Lilly-West, who previously served as Chairman of the Rivers State Civil Service Union, described the move by the Ibok Ibas-led administration as “wrong and insensitive.” He alleged that conducting the exercise toward the end of the month is a deliberate attempt to delay workers’ salaries.

He also called on Rivers State civil servants to boycott the verification, claiming it is part of a scheme to defraud the workforce and destabilise the civil service structure.

A circular made available to Rhythm News — though yet to be independently confirmed — indicates that the exercise is set to begin today at the Ministry of Justice Complex, starting with staff from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
