Former Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (retd), has paid an emotional tribute to the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as a brother, friend, and a true patriot whose life was defined by an unwavering commitment to the Nigerian nation.
In a personally signed statement, General Babangida expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the former head of state and two-term civilian president, stating that the news was received with a heavy heart.
“President Buhari was more than a colleague in uniform and in leadership—he was a brother, a trusted friend, and a resolute defender of Nigeria’s unity and stability,” Babangida wrote. “His dedication to the service of our great nation, both in and out of uniform, will forever remain etched in the annals of our history.”
Babangida noted that Buhari’s legacy spans decades of disciplined leadership, integrity, and sacrifice, adding that his passing leaves a void not only in the hearts of those who knew him personally, but also among millions of Nigerians who admired his steadfastness.
“He stood for order, discipline, and national rebirth. He believed in Nigeria, even in its most difficult moments,” Babangida added.
