The people of Ogoniland in Tai Local Government Area have taken to the streets in a protest following the recent killing of a young man in Ueken community by suspected Fulani herdsmen. The demonstration, which took place on Tuesday, culminated at the Government House in Port Harcourt.
During the protest, residents raised urgent alarms over the escalating threat posed by Fulani herdsmen in the region. The march, which commenced at UTC Junction on Azikiwe Road, proceeded through key locations including the DSS office and the police headquarters before ending at the Government House.
Leading the protesters, the President of the South-South Youth Initiative, Saviour Oscar Imeabe, called for an immediate end to the violence and killings. He urged authorities to take decisive action to protect communities from such threats.
Receiving the protesters, the Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, who was represented by DSP Alhassan Kawu, assured that the concerns raised would be thoroughly investigated and addressed.
The protest reflected widespread frustration among Ogoni residents over the persistent insecurity in their communities and their demand for urgent intervention by security agencies.
