Rivers State Youth Council Endorses Peace Deal, Calls for Continued Unity and Dialogue

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) in Rivers State has formally endorsed the recent peace agreement involving Governor Fubara, the FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, and the state lawmakers. The youth body described the peace deal as a vital step toward ensuring lasting peace and promoting sustainable development within the state.

In a statement signed by its acting State Coordinator, Gift Jumbo, and Secretary, David Apiafi, the NYCN also expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his instrumental role in brokering peace and resolving the ongoing political crisis in Rivers.

The apex youth organization reaffirmed its stance that Rivers youths should not be used as tools for political violence or manipulation. Instead, they emphasized that young people should be viewed as partners in peace and development moving forward.

Comrade Gift Jumbo and David Apiafi called on all political actors and stakeholders in Rivers to prioritize the interests of the people above partisan considerations, citing the leadership shown by Governor Fubara, the FCT Minister Wike, and other key figures as exemplary.

The NYCN further urged everyone to sustain the peace through dialogue, humility, honesty, and a collective desire to heal past wounds. To further this effort, the youth council announced plans to organize a youth-led peace and reconciliation summit. This summit aims to bring together young stakeholders, community leaders, and civil society actors to foster unity and ensure enduring peace in Rivers State.
