Prof. Ndowa Laale Resumes as Uniport Vc

The development marks the end to the suspension of the Vice Chancellor by the Governing Council of the institution over the recent unrest by students that claimed the life of one person and forced the university to close down for over one month.

Our correspondent CHINEDU IWUNNA reports that Professor LAALE returned to work today to a reception by a cheering crowd of students and staff of the university.

It was also gathered that the development is based on the intervention of the Federal Government, with a directive from the Federal Ministry of Education, dissolving the Governing Council of the University of Port Harcourt.

It has also been revealed that the Minister of Education had issued a previous statement directing the Governing Council headed by GESI ASAMAOWEI as Pro-Chancellor to reinstate Professor LALE but the directive was not carried out.

Consequently, the Vice Chancellor Professor NDOWAI LALE has also been reinstated as the VC of the University of Port Harcourt in the latest directive.

Speaking shortly after his return to work, the Vice Chancellor, Professor NDOWA LAALE said it only takes a little time for truth to prevail.

Professor LAALE maintained that his suspension by the governing council was illegal; stressing that his suspension was orchestrated by few individuals in the school management.

The Deputy Registrar in charge of Public Relations at the University of Port Harcourt, WILLIAM WODI, confirmed the receipt of the directive from the Ministry of Education, dissolving the Governing Council and reinstating Professor NDOWA LAALE as Vice Chancellor.

WILLAIM WODI said the letter has also been published in some national dailies to notify the public on the latest developments.
