The Republic of Korea to Donate First Batch of Mpox Vaccine to Africa

This will be the first batch of vaccines African countries will use to contain the outbreak.

The acting director of the Africa Centres for Disease Control, Ahmed Ogwell, said priority will be given to health workers and communities living in areas that have the highest number of cases.

It might interest you to know that out of the fifty five African countries, thirteen are currently dealing with an active outbreak with majority of the cases from Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Ghana.

Mpox is endemic in parts of West and Central Africa, but it was not until the disease caused unusual outbreaks in Europe and North America that public health officials thought of using vaccines.

So far, Africa has reported one thousand forty seven new cases and two hundred and two deaths.
